trend-ery

May 11th, 2009 by Brittney

Are nerd glasses in? I honestly don’t get how trends get started and become cool. Having recently seen posts such as this one by Gala Darling, I’m feeling like maybe this is something I can try.

I purchased a pair a few months ago because of a certain tshirt design and haven’t yet had the guts to wear them out of the house.

Here they are:

I don’t know. I feel both like a ridiculous dork/ nerd (SUCCESS!) and also kind of cute, in the, ‘my Dad will look at me and say, “Uh, what the heck?” way’, if that makes any sense.

What do you think?

EDIT: The responses from my family:
My sister: “…oh gosh.”

My Dad: “OH MY GOODNESS YOU ARE SO ADORABLE!”
Me: (blinkblink) “Whoa, okay.”

After 1/2 a day’s wearing they were pretty great! They have a slight magnification, though, which screws with my vision (I already wear contacts) and kind of make me grumpy, so I ended up taking them off at work. It didn’t help that my supervisor took one look at me and said, “I am NOT listening to anything you say until you take those off!” so I complied, lol.

I think you look like a ridiculously cute dork/nerd! GREAT SUCCESS. I wish I could experiment with glasses (my bad vision and reluctance to get contacts prevents it).

Hahaha, thanks, Anna! I actually do wear contacts, which caused problems later on in the day (I think I’m used to having correction in my lenses, so I subconsciously strained my eyes?) and also the plastic magnifies things ever so slightly which wasn’t fun after a few hours. But glasses are fun! Have you ever tried the 2 for 1 lenscrafters deal or whatever and gotten more than one pair of glasses? My sister does that, and it’s awesome!

They look really cute! Adorable geekiness definitely accomplished!

I always wonder what I’d look like in glasses, though I don’t think I’d ever wear fake ones as a fashion statement personally. When I’ve been with the boy to look at frames, though (he wears glasses), I like to try on the empty frames to see what kind of glasses I’d want if my vision ever goes. I’m thinkin’ rectangular.

By the way, I just noticed how much Michael Jackson you’ve apparently been listening to. Approved. Much approved. :)
